When the Muse speaks...
So owing almost exclusively to my freakish sleeping habits, I was awake at 3 AM wrestling with an idea for a story. After taking some notes and doing a page and a half of free writing, I fell asleep and dreamed about the story. A long, detailed, vivid dream that played like a movie in my head. I woke up remembering pretty much every bit of it. My mission, should I choose to accept it (of course I choose to accept it, I try to never look a gift Muse in the mouth...), is to transcribe all the details of this dream so that I don't forget them. Even though it wasn't a shiny-happy story, nor an up-beat dream that I was dreaming, I really do feel a sense of responsibility to this story. If you consider yourself a writer, or like myself, just a story teller, I think we owe the Muse that much; to take the inspiration we are allowed to borrow from that great creative ether "out there" and turn it into something tangible. Something that other people can wrap their minds (and if we do a good job, maybe their hearts) around and say "Yeah, I get it."
